Description
A vintage French movie poster of ''Death Flies East'',a 1935 American mystery film directed by Phil Rosen. The movie is based on the 1934 novel of the same name by Alice Arlen. The film features a cast that includes several notable actors of the era, including Madge Evans, Robert Ames, and Helen Lowell.
The story of "Death Flies East" revolves around a murder mystery that unfolds on a transcontinental train journey. Madge Evans plays the role of Genevieve Jones, a young woman who finds herself on a train traveling from Chicago to New York. During the journey, a murder takes place on board, and Genevieve becomes involved in the investigation.
Robert Ames portrays a detective named George Mitchell, who is also a passenger on the train. Together, Genevieve and George work to unravel the mystery, which involves a diverse group of passengers, each with their own secrets and motives. As the train races towards its destination, the tension and suspense build, and the two protagonists must solve the murder before they reach New York City.
"Death Flies East" is a classic example of a murder mystery set in a confined and suspenseful environment—a train in this case. The film blends elements of suspense, intrigue, and character development as the passengers interact and reveal their hidden agendas. While it may not be as well-known as some other films of its era, it remains an interesting entry in the genre of early 20th-century mystery films.
About the artist:
Roland Coudon (1897–1954) was a creative visual artist who worked as an accomplished French poster designer in the 1920s and 1930s.
Coudon was inspired by the artistic atmosphere induced by the first major post-impressionism movement during the early 1900s. His style channeled the Fauves, a group of painters who used vibrant brushstrokes with intense, other-worldly colors. Henri Matisse and Picasso were among the most notable Fauves.
